You should read it. There are so much junk out there about violence and killings sensationalized, but this is a story beautifully told of friendship between two boys that thrive in once beautiful Afghanistan. It is a window into the unseen world of the old Kabul where streets were made of sandstone, often laced with the smell of lamb kebab of the street vendors. Filmed against a backdrop of grand mountains, this movie moves you whether it’s of moments where two childhood friends share an infrangible bond or when their stories are set to be changed forever. It also teaches about love between a husband and wife. As part of an Afghan tradition, they were presented a mirror when they made their vows. And staring into the mirror at each other’s image, the bride asked the groom about what he sees and he tenderly replied, I see the rest of my life. =) Made my heart and every other woman’s in the theatre melt. That always conscious effort to sense and know each other’s needs, that constant reassurance, the hugs are so heartwarming.
Read it and let your mind bring you where it only knows, watch it if you want to see a part of Afghanistan that will stay with you for a long long time.
Once again, im amazed at how pages can change you in quiet ways. Not only kiterunner but the many books before and are to come after this one. We escape reality through books but in a funny way, through them, reality is presented before you with an impact twice as powerful. Languages are windows to the world, yeap, I will agree with that anytime, any place.
