To see how they tried. =) To meet the kids, to see how the rules of this world don’t apply to them. The National Track & Field Championships will never be a professional meet. No matter how hard we try, it will not be what you will expect from able-bodied sports. But it will be a meet that gave these children a chance to have a moment of what is normal for kids their age at school. I mean we all kind of dread sports meets, the sun, the noise, the humidity, the tension in the air…
Its nothing different today for the adults but to the kids they actually love just being there. They will set up little cheer teams and cheer into the microphone when they have a chance. I guess cute will be my word that will describe some of the cheers that they give to their team mates running out on the track. But it works and you see them run harder and faster.
Moments like these are sweet, I cant stop grinning when I see that. Especially, when you’re the last person running late and left behind by all the other seven competers pounding ahead, that guy just spread his arms and ran all the way into the wind, into the finish line, last but with arms raised in triumph. He knew he wouldn’t beat all the other seven that were faster and stronger but he just did what he felt like; running into the wind. The hilarious one was when one guy ran all the way with two thumbs up turning to the crowd as they cheered. =D haha, its so unprofessional but what the heck, it makes the saddest person smile.
This little guy who upon seeing his classmate say hi and shaking hands with me, did his greetings in his own way, the little hand kiss that muslims give elders when they meet. It was so heartwarming when he did that, I mean I was gonna shake his hand when he took it and did that. I will never forget the kind of respect he gave me just cause i took a moment to go over and say hi.
Everyone got medals that day, regardless of placing, they all finished the race.
